For many years, I worked for Texas Instruments and supported product development with customers in Taiwan, Japan, Korea, and China as a supplier in a group called DLP®. We sold a chipset, and provided system engineering support from software reference designs to thermal and optical designs. It was during this time that I developed a passion for Taiwan and the Mandarin language.

At one point, I transitioned to a Texas Instruments team called Education Technology. In terms of revenue, the calculator business is a small part of TI, but they are the only team with a finished product that people know. I learned about complete product development, qualification testing, materials, manufacturing technologies such as injection molding, extrusion, DFM, 8D reports, risk assessments, audits, packaging products for the store and shipment, IQC and OQC standards, managing lead times and schedules along with other supply chain methodologies from distinguished people who have 30+ years of experience.

I wanted to relocate to Taiwan and took a job with a small technology company for a few years. During these years, I’ve formed lifetime connections with friends and factory owners. My Mandarin language skills have dramatically improved as well. I read, speak and write at an advanced level.

In December of 2014, I formed Lone Star Technology to serve small to medium sized companies who make products and need dependable quality. Companies like Texas Instruments have large supply chain teams and are giving priority at factories due to their sheer volumes. Smaller companies may not have a need to retain supply chain staff and prefer to pay for the service as needed.

One observation over these few years is that many people are trying to build products and also source from Alibaba. As someone who buys from Taiwan and China, I would NEVER send money to a factory that I have not audited nor do business with a company that won’t let me inspect.

Product development is exciting and I’m always available to discuss how I can help your company.
